Archive No. 002 : MOUSE PAD

This animated illustration grew out of my fascination with vintage technology. During a visit to the Living Computer Museum in Seattle, I became particularly drawn to the plastic material of the 1984 Macintosh, finished in the iconic “Apple Beige.” There’s something aesthetically pleasing about it—an object that evokes nostalgia for a simpler time open to new possiblities.

This sense of simplicity is echoed in the stylized mice, which function both as a playful reference to the computer mouse and as a visual contrast between technology and the natural world. Together, these elements explore the tension and harmony between nature and vintage technology, allowing the series to examine their shared duality.

This animated illustration followed the creation of MOUSE PAD and was inspired by my morning walks through a forest near my apartment. These walks allow me to slow down and experience nature’s ability to bring peace and healing.

The rhythmic movement of the bees suggests a kind of musical harmony—their motion quick and calculated as they communicate with one another through a shared buzzing frequency. This idea of communication led me to the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X from 1984, commonly known as the “Brick.”

The intertwined African daisies growing into the “Bricks” symbolize the necessity of technology and nature interweaving to achieve balance.
